Jab Strong Fierce

This past Saturday evening, Nucleus paid homage to the video game phenomenon that is Street Fighter with Jab Strong Fierce. The group art show featured paintings, drawings, and a few sculptural interpretations of the iconic coin-op series. While many of the artists presented portraits of classic characters (ken, ryu, and chun-li were clearly the favorite subjects), some chose a broader approach including Roland Tamayo’s piece (above) which offers a compelling vision of a mystical Thailand ‘stage’ in which M. Bison and Sagat square off against one another.

For this celebration of all things Street Fighter, the gallery also hosted two fun side-events – a cosplay content and a single-elimination SF IV tourney. The tourney proved hugely popular. The large crowd was mesmerized by the projected images of the games on both main walls of the gallery – oohs and ahs echoed with each punishing move and with unexpected turns in the battles.

While taking pictures of the art was a little challenging, we managed to dodge tourney spectators long enough to put together a nice selection of cool pieces. Enjoy. The show runs through May 11th – plenty of time to check it out in person. Also, be sure to check out the full preview which includes several pieces still available for purchase.
